Breckenridge Sleigh Ride Elopement

This sleigh ride elopement in Breckenridge showed off Colorado’s incredible beauty and the numerous opportunities to adventure here during any season.
The day was full of fun with quite a few warm up breaks. It was the coldest day of the winter here, but that didn’t stop us from adventuring!
Planning a Romantic Winter Elopement
If your elopement priorities include a peaceful and private setting, adventurous activities, and a stunning backdrop, you should seriously consider eloping in the winter in Colorado!
Whether you and your partner enjoy skiing, sledding, or ice fishing (or want to try any of these activities out), or if you just want your elopement to be a little more unique, I highly recommend eloping in the winter.
Colorado – and especially mountain towns like Breckenridge – are such special places because they truly have 365 days of fun and stunning scenery. Check out my guide on the best time to elope in Colorado (spoiler alert: it’s anytime!) to find ideas for every season.

Snowy Mountain Town Vibes
One huge benefit to a winter elopement in Colorado is staying in a gorgeous snowy mountain town like Breckenridge.
Because Breckenridge is a ski resort town, it doesn’t shut down in the winter – all the restaurants and hotels are open, and the roads and sidewalks are plowed.
Breckenridge’s adorable historic downtown is such a fun and lively place during the winter, and there are tons of Airbnbs, resorts, and hotels you can book for getting ready before your elopement.
Not to mention the incredible scenery, of course! You don’t have to go far to find a frozen lake and evergreen trees dusted with snow for magical portraits in a winter wonderland.

Sleigh Ride Elopement
There are so many activities you can include in a winter elopement in Breckenridge. In addition to the town’s ski resort, you can ice skate on a frozen lake or snowshoe down a hiking trail with your partner…
Or one of the most romantic ways to spend your winter wedding day is on a ride in a real horse-drawn sleigh. For this Breckenridge sleigh ride elopement, we booked a private sleigh so the couple could enjoy the serenity of a snow-covered landscape just the two of them.
How to Prepare for a
Sleigh Ride Elopement
01/
Reserve Your Ride
Breckenridge Stables and Golden Horseshoe Sleigh Rides both have choices including group sleigh trips – if you’re bringing friends and family along for a winter microwedding – or private dinner sleigh rides for a magically romantic evening.
02/
Layer Up
Colorado’s high-elevation mountain towns can have bitterly cold winter temps and windy conditions. Wear base layers under your wedding attire and bring coats, gloves, and snow boots!
03/
Bring Warm Drinks
Fill a Thermos with hot chocolate or tea – you can even spike it if you like! You and your partner can share a warm toast as you cuddle in the sleigh.
