Throne of Glass Inspired Engagement Session

Rachel & Sean's favorite book series was the inspiration for their fantasy engagement session in Estes Park, Colorado.
We hiked into a lake in Rocky Mountain National Park and explored historic chapel as the backdrops for these fun, magical engagement photos.
I truly believe there is no such thing as going "too far" for epic photos.
Rachel and Sean put that theory to the test when they hiked swords and armor into a national park for their engagement session inspired by the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.
They originally inquired with me about their destination elopement next summer in Crested Butte. During our inquiry call, we chatted all about their dreams of a fantasy engagement session inspired by their favorite Throne of Glass characters (Dorian & Manon). We ended up talking a lot about Throne of Glass because it's one of my favorite series too, and schemed about things they could do for their engagement session.
We had so much fun chatting about their fantasy engagements that they decided to fly to Colorado to have me shoot this epic adventure session, as well as their elopement next summer!

Hey there! I'm Sam, Your Colorado engagement Photographer & Planner
I know and adore Estes Park (and all of the Colorado Rocky Mountains!), and I'm a huge fantasy reader/avid DnD player. So, I would be thrilled to help make your fantasy engagement session just as amazing as Rachel & Sean's.

Hiking with Swords
We started Rachel and Sean's fantasy engagement session with a hike to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.
The couple hiked up in just part of their outfits – it turns out it's difficult to hike in leather armor – and carried their swords up the trail. When we reached the lake, they put on the rest of their amazingly detailed outfits, and had fun exploring and posing.
We did check if swords were allowed in the park before our session, and were surprised to learn they were! Check out my elopement guide to learn about all the epic things you can do when you adventure to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Photos at the Castle
Rachel and Sean wanted some photos with a castle-like backdrop, so our second location was St. Malo's Chapel on the Rock, just outside Estes Park.
This adorable historic chapel does wedding ceremonies for Catholic couples, but we got permission to take some photos outside the chapel while it was closed.
Fantasy Engagements
If you're not sure what to do for your engagement session, a great place to start is brainstorming what you love doing together.
For Rachel and Sean, their shared love of fantasy inspired their plans. But you could choose anything! From hiking, to visiting a brewery, to playing board games.
I'm always happy to chat through ideas to plan an engagement session that feels like "you"! And you can check out my Colorado Elopement Guide for tons of activity inspiration for elopements and engagement sessions in Colorado.
