Twin Lakes Wedding

Sera and Lucas’s Twin Lakes wedding was a perfect example of how special and intimate a microwedding can be – while still including your closest loved ones in your day.
As the microwedding planner and photographer for Sera and Lucas’s event, I got to know this fun, adventurous couple personally and experience one of the things that makes my job so cool – planning and capturing wedding days that authentically reflect my couples’ unique love stories.
Planning a Destination Microwedding
Because Sera and Lucas don’t live in Colorado, I quickly jumped in with all my local knowledge to make sure their microwedding planning process was stress-free even from afar.
I helped the couple choose ideal locations near Leadville, Colorado, for an outdoor ceremony and restaurant reception, and recommended some of my favorite Colorado wedding vendors to bring everything together.
One of my biggest recommendations for planning a wedding in another state (or country!) is to get someone on your team from the beginning who knows the area and can help you make informed choices about where to stay, what to do, and who to hire.
Sera and Lucas also tackled a lot of the little details themselves, incorporating so many personal touches in their day that reflected their relationship.

Mixing Tradition & Fun
One of the things I loved about Sera and Lucas’s approach to their Twin Lakes wedding was how they mixed elements of a traditional wedding with family and friends and an adventure elopement with just the two of them.
After each getting ready with their closest people, the couple shared a first look on a gorgeous ridge with the Twin Lakes and snowcapped Rocky Mountains as the backdrop.
Sera and Lucas shared private vows, and Lucas gave his bride a gift – a turquoise bracelet they’d seen while shopping in town a few days before that Sera had loved that he secretly went back and bought for her.
A misconception people tend to have about weddings is that just because you’re having a traditional ceremony, you have to read your personal vows in front of all your guests. You can still exchange your vows privately before the ceremony if you want the intimate vibe of an elopement to share your sappiest feelings with your partner!
After their vows, the couple had a ceremony with about 30 guests on the breezy shore of one of the Twin Lakes.
They opted to keep some traditions in their ceremony, like choosing an officiant, best man, and maid of honor.
Some parts of the ceremony were uniquely “them,” however – like their shot ski unity ceremony before their first kiss!

Dinner Party Reception
Sera and Lucas continued their Twin Lakes wedding with a reception at Treeline Kitchen. I highly recommend them! They have amazing food and are wonderful to work with.
Their guest count was perfect for an intimate dinner party vibe, where they got to spend time with each of their guests.
After dinner, the couple did a toast, cake-cutting, and first dance to wrap up their microwedding reception.

Sunset & Stars
After the reception, we headed out to take some stunning couple’s portraits at sunset, and to let Sera and Lucas have some time to reflect on the day and enjoy being in nature together just the two of them.
One definite perk of a microwedding is that you can pick and choose the elements of an elopement and a traditional wedding that are most important to you – so if partying with your guests until midnight is less your vibe than a private moment with your partner at sunset, we can totally make that happen!

We caught some amazing golden light by the lakeshore. One of my favorite moments of the whole day was watching Sera and Lucas skip rocks together as the sun dipped behind the mountains.
Once it started to get dark, I pulled out my lanterns for some cool blue hour shots of the newlyweds.
Then we waited for the stars to come out to end Sera and Lucas’s Twin Lakes wedding day under the breathtaking night sky.
Sera & Lucas’s Review
I started working with Sam last year, in planning my micro wedding in Colorado. From the beginning she was so enthusiastic about her job, took so much pride in her work and so thoughtful and knowledgeable as well. We just had our micro wedding a few days ago, and I am still getting comments from guests, about how well Samantha did. How kind, experienced and fun she is! She helped me through every process of planning my wedding, and I truly believe if it wasn’t for her the day would not have been as perfect as it was. My husband and I planned our Colorado wedding from South Carolina, all online, and Sam was so transparent and helpful. Not only was she our photographer, she grew to be an amazing friend. Hiring her was the best decision I could have made. She captured all the special moments and I got so many sneak peaks back I thought it was the full album! Working with Sam and having her photograph our special day was truly an honor. I cherish her so much.
